Sevilla vs Real Madrid Not A War, Just A Semi-Final – Karanka

The atmosphere is heating up ahead of Wednesday night’s game in Andalusia. Los Blancos have to defeat the demons that have been preventing them from enjoying Copa del Rey glory since 1993. Speaking on behalf of Coach Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid’s assistant manager Aitor Karanka shared his views with the media as the club’s official website quoted him as saying:

“We are only thinking about the Copa del Rey – a competition which we’re all very excited about winning. It’s been a long time since we last reached the final and we want to make it this time.”

“It will be very hard to win at the Sanchez Pizjuan, but we are so committed to winning titles and we will work hard to achieve that. We’ll clash against Sevilla who seem to manage things well for themselves in the Copa del Rey.”

Sevilla’s form in the Copa del Rey is indeed quite different than what they’ve been carrying in La Liga. In the Spanish Cup quarter-finals, they edged 6-3 past Villarreal.

Malaga and Real Union Irun also fell emphatically against Sevilla in the early stages of the competition. So what kind of approach will Real Madrid take ahead of Wednesday night’s crucial Copa del Rey semi-final match? Karanka got the answer to this question, stating:

“We want to reach the final, but this is not a war. At least, we won’t regard it as a war.”
